Tongue and groove refers to a type of joint that is primarily used for flooring. One of the pieces that is intended to be joined to another will have a thin projection (or “tongue”) that fits into a corresponding slot (or “groove”) in the other piece. Because the pieces of wood slide together, there is no need for any additional hardware, which is why it is such a popular choice for flooring.
