Pine trees are conifers, meaning that pine is technically a softwood. Although pine is softer than hardwoods like cherry and oak, it still is strong and shock-resistant, making it a popular choice for a variety of applications in woodworking. In addition, pine grows quickly and is readily available, making it a very cost-effective option.
