Flakeboard is a made out of wood flakes that are bonded together using an adhesive, whereas particleboard, another type of composition board, consists of small wood pieces that are bonded together. In both cases, the materials are pressed together and then they are cut into boards. Flakeboard is often used to build the sides and backs of cabinets and also features into the design of countertops, shelving, and furniture.
