When epoxy, an artificial resin made out of epoxide ring chains, is applied to metal guides, it provides a nice finish. The metal parts do not chafe as they rub against each other, and this causes the metal guides to operate silently. In kitchen design, this means that drawers make very little noise as they roll on the guides while being opened and closed.
