Dowels are pegs made out of plastic, metal, or wood that are round and uniform in shape. To attach pieces of wood together, the dowel is inserted into the matching holes on both pieces, with the holes being slightly larger in diameter than the dowels themselves. One advantage to using dowels is that they are not visible once a piece is finished.
