    In woodworking, a dado joint Is used to attach shelves to cabinetry elements or for bookshelves. Unlike a groove, which is cut along the lines of the grain, a dado is cut at a right angle to the grain. The corresponding piece is then fit into this slot, and the result is an extremely strong joint that is well-suited to support considerable amounts of weight.
