The cook-top is the surface used for cooking, and is usually a part of the stovetop but can also take the form of hot plates or a countertop element. There are three main types of cook-tops: gas, electric, and magnetic induction. Gas allows cooks greater control, such as turning the heat up quickly. Magnetic induction is a technology has many advantages but remains pricier than other options, though as they become more common, prices have been dropping.
