Columns serve both decorative and functional purposes in construction and have been an essential feature in buildings throughout human history. Today they are generally ornamental, and may appear on the outside of buildings for an impressive façade or even inside for dramatic effect. Columns are made of a variety of materials and can be painted to match with the décor.
