Chestnut wood was used in homes and furniture by the American pioneers, who prized it for its durability and resistance to rot. The chestnut tree in the United States, however, suffered from a severe blight, and still remains relatively rare in the US today. For this reason, it is not common to find real chestnut wood in modern carpentry and woodworking.
