Burnishing

Burnishing is a technique used with wood that is intended for cabinets, floors, and furniture when a high level of shine is desired. Instead of using chemicals to achieve the finish, burnishing is achieved by rubbing one piece of wood with another piece of wood or wood shavings. The heat that results from the friction reveals the harder cells of the wood, which are shinier than the softer cells that have been rubbed away in the process.
