Burl wood comes from a rounded growth on a tree and is especially popular for handicrafts and decoration. It is distinct from bird’s eye grain, which occurs most notably in maples, especially in that the patterns of a burl are from knots in the grain. Burl wood is different from the wood that comes from the rest of the tree and is therefore unique.
