Renovating a kitchen can be an exciting journey, especially when creating spaces tailored to specific needs. This is exactly what Nikki Boyd did while transforming her grandmother’s 1960s home, now her aunt’s residence, into a modern haven. One of the standout features of this renovation? A beautifully designed coffee bar, brought to life with cabinets from Nelson Cabinetry. Here’s how this dream space came together and why it has become the highlight of her aunt’s kitchen.
The Coffee Bar Vision
Nikki’s aunt, an avid coffee drinker, had always dreamed of a dedicated coffee bar area. This space needed to be functional, aesthetically pleasing, and tailored to her daily coffee rituals. Nelson Cabinetry provided the perfect solution with best RTA cabinets.
Creating a coffee bar requires careful planning, and Nikki prioritized usability for her aunt:
- Drawers for Accessibility: Lower drawers replaced traditional cabinets, making it easy to access items without bending or digging around.
- Built-in Trash Bin: A convenient trash bin for coffee filters and waste keeps the area tidy.
- Customizable Storage: The cabinets’ light-colored interiors pair beautifully with store-bought inserts for a semi-custom look.
Nelson Cabinetry made the process seamless with their user-friendly design tools. Nikki was able to visualize the space before making a purchase, ensuring the coffee bar would meet her aunt’s needs. Whether you prefer to design it yourself or work with Nelson’s expert designers, the process is straightforward and stress-free.

Tips for a Stunning Coffee Bar Setup
Nikki shared her top tips for setting up a functional and stylish coffee bar:
- Organized Storage: Use drawers to store essentials like tea towels, napkins, and coffee accessories. Group items to minimize clutter and maintain a clean look.
- Efficient Canisters: Instead of pouring coffee directly into canisters, keep it in the bag for easier refills and freshness.
- Seasonal Touches: Add subtle decorations like fall-themed mugs or cinnamon biscotti to reflect the season without overwhelming the space.
- Essential Appliances: Include a kettle with a detachable base for flexibility, along with a simple coffee maker tailored to your routine.
- Decor That Inspires: Keep decorations minimal but meaningful—candles with wood wicks, for example, can create a cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a fireplace.
The Final Result
The coffee bar is now the centerpiece of Nikki’s aunt’s kitchen. With a combination of functionality and style, it’s a space where she can enjoy her morning coffee, entertain friends, or simply relax. Every detail, from the beautifully organized drawers to the carefully selected décor, makes this coffee bar both practical and inviting.
